Public figure Ilham Ismayil, who is about to complete his treatment, gave a statement to Medianews.az. He said that he feels good and will be discharged on January 28: “For a while, I will have to take care of myself and follow a strict diet.”
Ilham Ismayil, a veteran of the First Karabakh war, was admitted to the State Security Service hospital in Baku on January 18 with a diagnosis of internal bleeding, and a day later he underwent stomach surgery.
Born in 1957, Ilham Ismayil graduated from the Faculty of Journalism at Baku State University and the Minsk Higher Course of the USSR State Security Committee. He served as an operative agent and senior operative agent at the Ganja City Department of the State Security Committee (National Security Ministry). He was head of the Shamkir and Goychay divisions of the National Security Ministry and a department head at the ministry. He holds the rank of lieutenant colonel.
Ilham Ismayil was one of the most active participants in the operations to liberate the Ganjabasar region from Armenian occupation in 1990-1991, and also fought in some parts of the border with Armenia.
Since 1995, he has been engaged in socio-political activities. He is recognized as an expert on security issues.
