It was reported that the victims were between 3 and 11 years old, and 7 of them were the attacker's own children.
According to the police, 31-year-old Shamar Elkins first severely injured his wife, then opened fire on children at three separate homes. Two women were also injured during the incident, one of whom is in critical condition. One child was injured while trying to escape, but their life is not in danger.
After the attack, the suspect fled the scene by car but was neutralized during a police chase. An investigation is underway.
Officials described the incident as a "domestic attack." The city administration called it one of the worst tragedies in Shreveport's history.
