The opening ceremony of the 2026 World Cup has taken place.
Medianews.az reports that the curtain has risen on the planet's largest football celebration at the legendary "Azteca" (Mexico City Stadium) located in Mexico City's capital.
In the main match of the day, Mexico's national team, one of the hosts of the tournament, will face off against the South African team (RSA) in their first match of Group A. The game, which will start at 23:00 Baku time, is expected to fill the stands with more than 80,000 fans.
It should be noted that making a first in football history, the DÇ-2026 is being held jointly by three countries - the USA, Canada, and Mexico. Moreover, for the first time ever, the tournament is organized in an expanded format with 48 teams participating. The intense and exciting one-month football marathon will conclude with the grand final match to be held on July 19.
