Two more African countries have banned U.S. citizens from entering the country.

Two more African countries - Burkina Faso and Mali - will ban the entry of US citizens in response to Donald Trump's decision to refuse visas to residents of these countries.

According to the information, Mali and Burkina Faso stated that in response to US President Donald Trump's decision to ban citizens of Mali and Burkina Faso from entering the US, they will not allow US citizens to enter their countries.

The publication reports that this statement given by the foreign ministers of the two West African countries has become a turning point in the already cold relations between the West African military governments and the US.

It should be noted that on December 16, Trump expanded previously applied travel restrictions on entry into the US to 20 more countries, including Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger. Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, which are ruled by military personnel, have created a new regional union separate from the Economic Community of West African States. Recall that in 2024, Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger established the Sahel States Confederation.

The White House cited continued attacks by armed groups as one of the reasons for the travel ban on citizens of African countries.

The US expanded ban reflects Trump's intensified measures after two National Guard soldiers were shot dead in Washington on November 26.

The Trump Administration emphasized this incident to justify further tightening of immigration controls.

According to Washington officials who announced the ban, which was also applied to Mali and Burkina Faso earlier this month, the restrictions are necessary to prevent the entry of foreign nationals, since the US lacks sufficient information to assess the risks they pose.

Mali and Burkina Faso both struggle to contain rapidly spreading armed groups in their countries.

At the same time, a few days ago Niger announced retaliatory measures against the US, imposing a complete visa ban on US citizens. This step was taken after the US decided to add Niger to the list of countries whose citizens no longer have the right to obtain US entry visas. Niger has completely and permanently stopped issuing visas to all US citizens and banned US citizens from entering its territory for an indefinite period.
