A study conducted by scientists at Capital Medical University in China has shown that drinking tea and coffee at very hot temperatures increases the risk of stomach cancer.
According to Milli.Az, the research was carried out based on data from the UK Biobank project. Health indicators of more than 328,000 people were monitored over a period of 12 years. The number of cups and the temperature at which the participants consumed their drinks daily were recorded.
It was found that those who drank more than 8-9 cups of very hot drinks daily had a 54% increased risk of stomach cancer. For individuals who consistently consumed very hot drinks, the risk increased by more than twice.
The scientists state that the results did not change even after considering factors such as age, lifestyle, and smoking. The main cause of the risk is the prolonged damage to the stomach lining caused by hot drinks.
Researchers recommend drinking tea and coffee after allowing them to cool down somewhat to reduce the risk of cancer.
