The rarest encountered in Azerbaijan 5 infectious diseases - OFFICIAL

Statistics on certain infectious and parasitic diseases registered in Azerbaijan over the past five years have been announced. The data show a decrease in cases of echinococcosis and cutaneous leishmaniasis.

Medianews.az reports that in response to an inquiry from Modern.az, the State Statistics Committee stated that in 2025, 24 cases of echinococcosis were recorded. This figure was 33 in 2024, 58 in 2023, 74 in 2022, and 43 in 2021.

The situation regarding leprosy has remained stable in recent years. Specifically, 11 cases were recorded in 2021, and 10 cases each year from 2022 to 2025.

For visceral leishmaniasis, 19 cases were recorded in 2025. This figure was 11 in 2024, 31 in 2023, 27 in 2022, and 42 in 2021.

In cases of cutaneous leishmaniasis, a significant decrease has been observed in recent years. While 46 cases were recorded in 2023, this number dropped to 16 in 2024 and to 5 in 2025. For comparison, 19 cases were recorded each year in 2021 and 2022.

Regarding rabies, infection cases have remained at very low levels over the past five years. One case was recorded in 2021, one in 2022, three in 2023, two in 2024, and one in 2025.
