New research shows that the most effective dietary model for protecting brain health is still the traditional Mediterranean diet.
Medianews.az reports that a related study has been published in the journal "Clinical Nutrition."
The study conducted on 294 adults compared the effects of three different dietary models on brain aging.
In the 18-month study, it was found that individuals following the "green-MED" diet, which is enriched with walnuts, green tea, and plants rich in polyphenols, appeared to have younger brains and reduced inflammation-related biomarkers.
Experts state that the Mediterranean diet, rich in fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, nuts, and olive oil, reduces inflammation, slows neuronal aging, and may decrease the risk of neurodegenerative diseases. Studies also show that healthy nutrition supports the connection between gut microbiota and the brain.
Scientists emphasize that alongside healthy nutrition, physical activity and mental exercises also play an important role in slowing cognitive decline. Additionally, alcohol consumption should be limited as much as possible for brain health.
