Iraqi law enforcement agencies have confiscated approximately 175 million dollars and 400 kg of gold within the investigation of corruption cases involving the country's deputy oil minister Adnan al-Jumaili.
Medianews.az reports, citing the "Al Hadath" television channel, that this was stated in a declaration by Iraq's Supreme Judicial Council.
"According to information as of today, 213 billion dinars (approximately 162.5 million dollars) and 12 million dollars in cash have been confiscated in the case against al-Jumaili. Within the framework of the investigation, 400 kg of gold kept in secret locations in various provinces of the country have also been discovered," the institution stated.
According to the INA agency, the investigation authorities reported that an additional 27 billion dinars (slightly more than 20.5 million dollars) have been confiscated in the case involving al-Jumaili and persons associated with him.
At the end of June, 47 high-ranking officials and deputies were detained in Iraq on charges of corruption. Law enforcement agencies have issued 200 more arrest warrants for officials. At the same time, the Iraqi government stated that the campaign related to this case is ongoing and new names connected to corruption in the ministries of oil and electricity will soon be announced.
