Security measures are being strengthened in Mexico, which will host the FIFA World Cup together with the USA and Canada in 2026.
Medianews.az reports that robot dogs will also be used to ensure security during the tournament.
Locally called the "K9-X" unit, the robot dogs will be sent into narrow and risky areas before police officers enter the area. Devices that transmit live images can warn suspicious individuals via a loudspeaker. The goal is to reduce the physical risk to police during initial interventions.
Approximately 2.5 million pesos (about 245,000 manats) have been allocated for four robots. The devices are equipped with cameras, night vision systems, and sturdy bodies. They can climb stairs, navigate difficult terrain, and operate in low-visibility conditions. Officials stated that the robots are unarmed, and their main functions are observation, communication, and risk analysis.
It should be noted that BBVA stadium in Monterrey will host four matches under the name "Estadio Monterrey" during the tournament. Local authorities have increased police patrols and have also deployed drones and anti-drone systems. The goal is to timely prevent possible incidents during the competition attended by millions of fans.
