Two National Guard soldiers were killed near the White House in Washington — Trump ordered to "immediately lockdown the building"
Musavat.com reports that in Washington — near the White House, two US National Guard soldiers were shot as a result of an armed attack. Following the incident, the White House went into lockdown and the building was blocked for a short time. President Donald Trump was in Florida at the time.
West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey wrote on X that the two injured soldiers were members of his state's National Guard. The White House also reposted this statement.
Suspect detained
Washington police stated that the suspect has been detained and that the area’s safety has been secured. According to CNN, the attacker was seriously injured, which is presumed to have resulted from the return fire of the two soldiers.
Trump called the suspect an “animal” on social media and declared that he would be severely punished.
Incident in the center — near the White House
The shooting occurred near the White House — in an area crowded with office workers, surrounded by restaurants and metro exits. Witnesses reported hearing two loud blasts resembling explosions, while people were seen fleeing and trying to take shelter somewhere.
All federal security agencies — the Secret Service, Metropolitan Police, and Metro Police — were involved in a large-scale operation during the incident.
Why was the National Guard in Washington?
National Guard units had been brought to the capital since August by order of the Trump administration. Their mission was to patrol the city within the framework of immigration and crime control. Currently, approximately 2200 National Guard soldiers were serving in the city.
