There are numerous complaints on social networks about banks not accepting dollar bills with seals and about a 20% commission being charged for each sealed $100 bill.
Pravda.az reports that lawyer Əkrəm Həsənov stated that Azerbaijani banks have no obligation to exchange any currency.
"If the bank charges any commission when exchanging dollars, it is because the bank has to sell that money to someone. It may be that no one buys that money from the bank itself. Therefore, it is forced to hold a large amount or send it to the USA for exchange. This is an additional cost for the bank. There are no legal restrictions; the bank simply wants to indicate that I am buying sealed money from you, no one buys that money from me, there is a problem. I am buying it from you cheaply so that if needed, I can send it to the USA," the lawyer said.
