With the cooling weather, increasing natural gas payments negatively affect the budgets of many people. However, it is possible to reduce these costs by preventing heat loss in your home and using radiators more efficiently.
Milli.Az presents 5 easy ways to save on gas payments:
1. Place foil (heat-reflecting board) behind the radiators
A portion of the heat produced by radiators is directly absorbed by the wall and wasted. Aluminum foil or special heat-reflecting boards placed behind the radiator return this heat back into the room. This simple method ensures the room heats up faster.
2. Do not block the front of radiators
For the sake of home decoration, placing a sofa or table in front of the radiators or covering them with long curtains completely blocks heat circulation. Since warm air cannot spread into the room, the boiler needs to work more. Leave space around the radiators to allow free airflow.
3. Regularly bleed the radiator
If the top part of the radiator is cold and the bottom part is warm, this means there is air inside the system. The air inside obstructs water circulation and prevents the radiator from heating to its full capacity. Using a special key or screwdriver, you can remove this air and increase the boiler's efficiency.
4. Use thermostatic valves
It is not necessary for every room to be heated equally. For example, you may want to keep the bedroom cooler than the living room. Thanks to thermostatic valves attached to radiators, you can adjust the temperature of each room individually and prevent unnecessary gas consumption in rooms you are not using.
5. Adjust your curtains according to sunlight
During sunny hours in the daytime, open the curtains fully so that the sun naturally heats the house. After the sun sets, draw thick curtains to prevent the cold air from walls and windows from entering, thus providing a kind of insulation layer.
