A citizen traveling abroad experienced the shock of his life when he saw an astronomical bill from his mobile operator upon returning. Normally paying small amounts, the user was charged thousands of dollars on his account.
Milli.Az reports that during the investigation, it was found that the entire amount was related to calls made or data packages used with just one number.
The affected person answered an unknown call or clicked on a link sent to his phone while abroad. This trap set by scammers redirected the user's phone to "premium" (high-tariff) lines without his knowledge. As a result, a few minutes of operation or calls turned into a debt worth a fortune.
Experts recommend following these rules to avoid similar situations:
Contact your mobile operator to clarify usage limits and roaming packages abroad.
Do not answer calls from numbers with unfamiliar international codes, and do not return calls to such numbers.
Avoid suspicious links such as "you have an invoice debt" or "you won a gift" received via SMS or social networks.
Set an upper limit on your invoice amount via the mobile application so that if unexpected expenses occur, your line will be automatically closed.
