In the next 14 years, the number of children suffering from obesity worldwide will reach 227 million.
This was reported by "The Guardian" newspaper, citing a new report from the World Obesity Federation (WOF).
It was stated that the most at-risk group consists of children and adolescents aged five to 19. According to the organization's forecasts, by 2040, more than 500 million children worldwide will be overweight.
Joanna Ralston, the executive director of the WOF, said that the increase in childhood obesity indicates that the world is not taking this disease seriously:
"It is wrong to condemn an entire generation to obesity and the chronic, potentially non-fatal infectious diseases often associated with it," she added.
According to the information, children most affected by obesity predominantly live in countries located in the western Pacific and the Americas. For comparison, based on statistics from 2025, approximately 180 million children worldwide suffer from this problem./oxu.az
