According to Milli.Az, dermatologist Sona Mammadova stated that improper sterilization during piercing procedures increases the risk of infection:
"Swelling and pain caused by infection may sometimes require surgical intervention. The area where the piercing is located also requires special attention. Piercings in particular areas such as the mouth, ear, and nose can sometimes lead to serious anatomical problems. Piercings can also cause skin reactions and allergies. Sometimes allergies to the metals used in body piercings can develop. Additionally, damage and bleeding can occur in certain parts of the body due to piercings. Furthermore, piercings can complicate some medical procedures."
The doctor noted that from a psychological perspective, getting a piercing without thorough consideration can negatively affect various parts of the body. In other words, sometimes people may experience feelings of regret in the future. Piercings can also cause certain difficulties in social relationships, thereby affecting people's attitudes towards their bodies.
