On May 26, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov held a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during his official visit to New York City.

Medianews.az reports that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) released a statement regarding this.

It was noted that during the meeting, thanks were expressed to the Chinese side for organizing open discussions on the topic “Maintaining International Peace and Security: Respect for the Purposes and Principles of the UN Charter and Strengthening the UN-Centered International System” at the UN Security Council, and the initiative was emphasized to hold special significance against the backdrop of current global challenges.

The parties expressed satisfaction with the dynamic development of relations between Azerbaijan and China, noting that in recent years, the high-level political dialogue and partnership based on mutual trust have made a significant contribution to entering a new phase. Within this framework, it was stated that the establishment of comprehensive strategic partnership relations between the two countries in 2025 plays an important role in further strengthening ties.

It was highlighted that the agreements and signed documents obtained within the framework of the Azerbaijani President’s official visit to China in 2025 create exceptional opportunities for expanding cooperation in various directions. At the same time, with the upcoming 35th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and China in 2027, it was noted that this jubilee would give impulse to the further development of bilateral relations.

During the meeting, the existing potential for expanding cooperation in trade, investment, transportation and logistics, energy security, green energy, industry, digital innovations, agriculture, science, education, and humanitarian fields was highly appreciated. The contribution of production enterprises operating in our country with Chinese investment to economic cooperation was emphasized. The strategic importance of joint projects carried out within the framework of the development of the Middle Corridor and the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route was noted. It was also pointed out that the removal of visa requirements between our countries positively contributes to increasing interpersonal contacts.

The importance of continuing mutual support and cooperation within international and regional organizations was noted. An exchange of views was held on the prospects of joint activities in the UN, OSCE, Non-Aligned Movement, and other multilateral platforms.

Satisfaction was expressed with the active participation of the Chinese delegation at the 13th session of the World Urban Forum, held in Azerbaijan in May of the current year, and it was stated that this participation made an important contribution to the development of multilateral cooperation.

Emphasizing the importance of strengthening interethnic relations, it was noted that expanding exchange programs in education, culture, tourism, and youth plays a special role in developing long-term partnership.

Additionally, regional security issues were reviewed. Our country expressed gratitude for the support provided for the evacuation of Chinese citizens from Iran.

Other regional and international issues of mutual interest were discussed during the meeting.
