Today marks the 34th anniversary of the restoration of the independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
"Report" reports that on October 18, 1991, the Supreme Soviet adopted the Constitutional Act "On the State Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan."
The Constitutional Act referred to the Declaration of Independence dated May 28, 1918, and the Declaration of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated August 30, 1991, "On the Restoration of the State Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan," and confirmed that the Republic of Azerbaijan is the successor of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.
The Azerbaijani people established an independent republic at the beginning of the last century, and in 1991, the Republic of Azerbaijan, as the successor of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, restored its independence.
In May 1992, the National Assembly approved the State anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan (music by Üzeyir Hacıbəyov, lyrics by Əhməd Cavad), and shortly thereafter, the tricolor flag and the state emblem featuring an eight-pointed star with a flame inside were confirmed.
At the plenary session of the Azerbaijani parliament on October 15, 2021, a new law "On Independence Day" was adopted. On the same day, the law "On Independence Day" was ratified by President Ilham Aliyev.
With the approval of the law, October 18 - State Independence Day was renamed and declared the Day of Restoration of Independence.
It should be noted that the Day of Restoration of Independence is a working day annually celebrated as a holiday in Azerbaijan.
