This newspaper ceased its activities in Azerbaijan.

The "Hürriyyət" newspaper has ceased its activities. This was stated to Medianews.az by the newspaper's employee Kamran Nasirli.

The "Hürriyyət" newspaper, which started appearing in the early 1990s, has recently been published once a week, coming out on Tuesdays.

The online version of the newspaper – the Hurriyyet.az website – was updated within 24 hours. Currently, access to Hurriyyet.az is not possible, but the online version continues to operate at another address (Hurriyyet.org/az).

Vüqar Məmmədov (Tofiqoğlu), the editor-in-chief of the "Hürriyyət" newspaper, its online version, and also "Hurriyyet TV," has been in custody since October 29, 2025. He was detained during an operation carried out by the State Security Service (DTX). On October 31, upon the Prosecutor General's submission and the Sabail District Court's decision, a preventive measure of detention for 3 months and 13 days was chosen for V. Məmmədov.

V. Məmmədov is accused under Article 182.2.4 (extortion for obtaining a considerable amount of property by threat) of the Criminal Code. His detention was carried out within the framework of the investigation of the criminal case initiated against Ramiz Mehdiyev, the former head of the Presidential Administration, who has been under house arrest since October 14, 2025, accused of an attempt to forcibly seize power, treason against the state, and legalization of a large amount of property obtained by criminal means (Articles 278.1, 274, and 193-1.3.2 of the Criminal Code).
