The fact that the opening ceremony of the Football World Cup is not being broadcast on the YouTube platform of Azerbaijan Public Television has caused disappointment among fans. One of the disappointing nuances is also that not all World Cup games will be broadcast on YouTube.
According to Medianews.az, the press secretary of Public Television, Ələsgər Vəliyev, told Modern.az that broadcasting only 15 games on YouTube is regulated by FIFA’s licensing rules and that this limitation is not the decision of the television channel.
“As Public Television, we have the right to broadcast 15 games on YouTube. This comes from FIFA’s licensing rules. We do not impose the restriction. International law and licensing requirements are like this. The same rules apply in Azerbaijan as in other countries,” he noted.
Ə.Vəliyev also emphasized that there is no financial problem regarding the broadcasts.
According to him, all games of the tournament will be presented live to the audience:
“In total, 104 games will be held in the World Cup. Of these, 92 will be broadcast live by Public Television. The remaining 12 matches take place simultaneously, so İTV has arranged conditions so that these matches can be shown by the CBC Sport channel. Thus, all 104 games will be presented live to the viewers.”
The press secretary added that fans will be able to watch the matches not only via television but also through digital platforms.
“At the same time, all games will be broadcast live on the İTV.az website,” said Ələsgər Vəliyev.
