During recent research conducted in the capital's markets, the discovery of horse meat in one of the cheap sausage products being sold caused serious concern.
This fact has brought questions about the composition and price of cheap sausage products sold in other markets back into the agenda.
Eyyub Huseynov, chairman of the Free Consumers Union, commented on the issue, stating that such products may also contain lower-quality and origin-unknown meats:
"Unfortunately, almost no meat sales are prohibited in the country. To prevent consumer deception, the origin of the meat must be clearly indicated. These types of meat products brought to the markets may often be made from questionable animal meats whose suitability is doubtful. The low price is related to this because such meats cost the producer almost nothing."
E. Huseynov added that according to Cabinet of Ministers' decision number 94, all food products sold in the country's commodity market must be labeled. That is, the release date of the product, expiry date, manufacturer company's details, and other information must be indicated on the packaging.
