Renowned Turkish actor, director, and playwright Nedret Denizhan has passed away.
Milli.Az reports that the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality City Theaters released an official statement regarding the actor's death. The statement read:
"We are deeply saddened by the loss of Nedret Denizhan, one of the master artists of our theater. We wish patience to his grieving family, all his loved ones, and the Turkish theater."
Born in Istanbul in 1946, the artist began his theater career at just 8 years old in the children's section of the IMM City Theaters.
For a time, he worked as an assistant director at the City Opera and appeared in operettas. After the closure of the opera, he returned to the City Theaters and held the position of stage director alongside acting.
In 1974, the great master Muhsin Ertuğrul sent him to Germany for education. From 1977 onwards, he began his professional directing career.
Creative Legacy: He directed dozens of famous plays such as "Yaprak Dökümü," "Vişne Bahçesi," "Cibali Karakolu," and "Figaro's Wedding." He also portrayed memorable roles in important classic works such as "Yerma," "Cyrano de Bergerac," and "The Merchant of Venice."
