Storing eggs on the refrigerator door, a daily habit of millions of women, actually poses serious health risks. Although many refrigerator manufacturers prepare special compartments on the door section, experts warn that this habit can lead to severe consequences in the future.
According to food safety experts, because the refrigerator door is opened and closed multiple times throughout the day, the temperature in this area constantly changes. Each time the door opens, the eggs come into contact with the warm air at room temperature. These sharp temperature fluctuations cause the microscopic pores on the eggshell to expand.
As a result of the pore expansion, dangerous bacteria such as Salmonella present on the outer surface of the shell easily penetrate inside the egg. The constant alternation of hot and cold air accelerates bacterial growth, leading to loss of the food's biological value and increased risk of poisoning.
To keep eggs fresh, it is recommended to store them on the middle or lower shelves of the refrigerator, in areas where the temperature is stable. Keeping them in their own cardboard carton prevents the absorption of other odors and regulates moisture balance. Another important point is to avoid washing eggs before placing them in the refrigerator. Because washing removes the natural protective layer on the shell, leaving it defenseless against infections. Washing the egg only immediately before use is considered the safest method.Demokrat.az
