A fraudulent Chinese became a city leader in the Philippines and was involved in human trafficking.

A Chinese citizen and former mayor of Bamban, Philippines, Alice Quo has been sentenced to life imprisonment on charges of human trafficking.

The court found her guilty of organizing a large-scale online fraud center where hundreds of people were detained and forced into labor.

During a police raid in March 2024, more than 700 individuals, citizens of Asian and African countries, were found inside the complex. Many of them were forced to participate in various frauds ranging from romantic scams to online gambling under physical violence and threats of punishment.

Investigation revealed that Alice Quo used forged documents claiming to be a Filipino citizen to run for office from Bamban city with a population of about 80,000. The fraudster's real name is Quo Huaping, and the investigation determined that her citizenship and eligibility for the municipal office were fabricated, rendering her mandate invalid. (Oxu.Az)
