The ideal sleep duration for health has been revealed – RESEARCH

A new scientific study has shown that there is a connection between sleep duration and insulin resistance, diabetes, and other metabolic diseases.

Medianews.az reports that a study on this subject was published in the journal "BMJ Open Diabetes Research & Care".

According to the research, sleeping approximately 7 hours and 18 minutes at night is considered the optimal duration to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.

The study was conducted by scientists from Nantong University. Sleep duration and blood sugar indicators of approximately 23,000 adult individuals living in the USA were analyzed.

The results showed that there is a U-shaped relationship between sleep duration and blood sugar regulation. That is, both insufficient and excessive sleep can have negative effects on metabolic health.

According to the study, about 7 hours and 18 minutes of sleep per day may help prevent insulin resistance.

Researchers noted that sleeping a few extra hours on weekends can sometimes be beneficial. However, in individuals who sleep excessively during the week, longer sleep on weekends may increase the risk of impaired glucose metabolism.

Experts state that inadequate and irregular sleep can lead to increased inflammation in the body, elevated blood pressure, and increased stress hormones.
