The court process of the criminal case known among the public as the "Atlant case," which was scheduled to continue today at the Baku Serious Crimes Court, was unexpectedly postponed.
According to information obtained by Medianews.az, the reason for the postponement of the process was an appeal addressed to the Prosecutor General's Office by the victims.
171 victim citizens demanded the renewal of the investigation, the criminal prosecution of Tahir Qədəşov, the head of the "Atlant" recreation center, and the suspension of the court investigation. They stated that it is not appropriate to continue the process until their appeals are legally evaluated.
According to the information, the court was postponed indefinitely precisely for this reason.
Only the son-in-law stands before the court
Currently, Nofəl Hacıyev, the son-in-law of Tahir Qədəşov, is on trial as the accused in the case.
According to the indictment, Nofəl Hacıyev is accused of defrauding 171 citizens of more than 14 million manats. In his statements during the investigation and court proceedings, he acknowledged that he directed a significant part of these funds to the expansion and construction works of the "Atlant" Family Recreation Center, which belongs to his father-in-law.
The other accused person in the criminal case is the company's executive director, Talış Məhəmmədov.
"The facility built with our money is being advertised"
The victims believe that answers to questions about the fate of millions of manats collected from citizens should be sought precisely at the "Atlant" recreation complex.
They state that the expanded facility built with their money is still operational today, conducting various advertising campaigns and being promoted through social media influencers.
"The facility said to have been built with our money has today turned into a place for entertainment and advertising. While hundreds of families remain homeless, the complex, involving millions, operates as if nothing has happened," the victims say.
"Let 'Atlant' be sold, and the citizens' money be returned"
One of the main demands of the victims is for the "Atlant" Family Recreation Center, on which a seizure has been imposed, to be auctioned off and for the damage to be compensated with the proceeds obtained.
They argue that if testimonies have been given in court asserting that millions of manats were directed to that facility, then the legal fate of these funds should also be clarified.
"If the trail of millions leads to 'Atlant,' first the fate of those funds must be investigated, then promotional videos should be shot by the poolside," the victims emphasize.
14 million manat scandal
Recall that according to the materials of the criminal case, more than 14 million manats were collected from 171 citizens through "Təbriz" MTK, but the promised apartments were not delivered to these persons.
During the investigation, a seizure was imposed on the "Atlant" recreation center. Nofəl Hacıyev admitted in his statement that the funds collected from citizens were spent on the construction and expansion works of the recreation center.
Currently, 171 families are waiting for the court's decision. Their main concern is: will the facility involving millions be sold and the damage compensated, or will the housing drama that has been going on for years enter a new phase? (Musavat.com)
