The "peace plan" proposed by US President Donald Trump, which was aimed at the de facto capitulation of Ukraine, was not accepted. In fact, Trump himself had to back down and stated that this was not the final plan and that new options were possible. The statement by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio clarified the situation completely: according to him, the text of that plan had been prepared by Moscow and presented to Washington. This statement showed that the US administration is no longer in a position to stand behind such documents.
The US has already withdrawn from the existing peace plan. The principled stance of European leaders and the diplomatic agility of the President of Ukraine blocked the realization of a dangerous mechanism aligned with Kremlin interests. The meeting held in Geneva with the participation of European, US, and Ukrainian representatives showed positive dynamics and confirmed the strengthening of diplomatic coordination. In this regard, the anticipated risks for Ukraine for next week have been neutralized.
However, Trump intended to demand Zelensky to sign that plan prepared by Russia on November 27.
But the course of events was different: Trump’s "peace plan" was not accepted. The joy shown by some Russia-oriented individuals on television did not last long.
In his latest statement, Trump said that the US continues to supply weapons, NATO provides financial support, and a peace plan prepared by the European Union exists. The US will support this plan and the course of the process will be determined in coordination with Europe.
Currently, the ball is in Moscow’s court. If Russian President Vladimir Putin does not agree with the new plan, the effects of the war will primarily be felt inside Russia – in Moscow.
It should be noted that the "peace plan" presented by Putin indicated his intention to end the war. The Kremlin faces a serious dilemma: either a compromise taking into account the West’s conditions or the deepening of the war. The European Union has prepared a 24-point ceasefire document. The US will have to agree with this document of the European Union.
As a result, both the unified position of Europe and the diplomatic resilience of Ukraine caused the plan put forward along the Trump–Putin line to end in complete failure.
