The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to Maria Corina Machado, leader of the Venezuelan opposition. The decision was announced on October 10 by the Norwegian Nobel Committee.
Medianews.az reports that Maria Machado is a brave politician who has stood out in recent years in the fight against dictatorship. The Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro regime did not allow her to participate in the 2024 presidential elections. Although the candidate supported by Machado, diplomat Edmundo González, actually won the elections, Maduro declared himself president again using fake numbers. During protest rallies held after the election, Maria Machado was kidnapped and held hostage for a period.
After Donald Trump returned to power, the USA accused Nicolás Maduro of narcoterrorism and doubled the reward for his capture to 50 million dollars. According to the US government, Nicolás Maduro is the leader of the group called "Cartel de los Soles" (Sun Cartel), which is engaged in drug trafficking. The US Navy has recently been striking vessels carrying drugs in the Caribbean region.
It should be noted that the most likely candidate for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize was US President Donald Trump. However, as it appears, the Norwegian Nobel Committee made a different decision.
