Restaurants in Moscow are closing en masse: the biggest wave in the market

Moscow has entered the largest phase since the pandemic period, in which restaurants and bars have ceased operations en masse.

According to Milli.Az, even though January is not yet over, more than 45 popular catering establishments in the capital, including "Dorogaya ya perezvonyu", "Smoke BBQ", "The Toy", "Mimi", "Beerside", and "Valenok", have stopped operating.

Experts believe that by the end of the year, it is possible that at least 465 public catering establishments will close in Moscow. This trend is not limited to small cafes and restaurants; large chains are also struggling to maintain their market positions and have closed several outlets.

Specialists point to a sharp decline in demand as the main reason. Going to restaurants has become an unaffordable luxury for many citizens. Additionally, among the factors increasing pressure on the sector in 2026 is the rise in VAT.

This negative trend observed in the market indicates that the public catering sector in Moscow is facing a serious challenge.
