Former captain of the England national team David Beckham has become the first athlete in British history to achieve billionaire status.
According to Oxu.az, the 51-year-old athlete and his wife - singer and designer Victoria Beckham - currently have a combined wealth valued at £1.185 billion. It is noted that the famous couple's financial situation has more than doubled in just the past year.
According to the analysis by "The Times," this sharp increase is mainly related to Beckham's investment in the MLS representative club "Inter Miami," which he has been a co-owner of since 2018. Currently, the value of Beckham's share in the team, which also features eight-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi, reaches approximately £300 million.
It is worth recalling that in the latest Forbes billionaire list, athletes such as Michael Jordan ($4.3 billion), Magic Johnson ($1.6 billion), LeBron James ($1.4 billion), Tiger Woods ($1.5 billion), and Roger Federer ($1.1 billion) were included.
Beckham, who ended his professional career in 2013, has played for giant clubs such as "Manchester United," "Real Madrid," PSG, "Milan," and "Los Angeles Galaxy." He has won titles in the English, Spanish, and French championships, as well as the UEFA Champions League.
The star footballer appeared in 115 matches for the England team and wore the national team captain's armband for six years.
