Today marks 5 years since the establishment of the Media Development Agency (MEDIA).
Medianews.az reports that MEDIA was established by the Decree No. 1249 dated January 12, 2021, by President Ilham Aliyev on "Deepening Reforms in the Media Sphere in the Republic of Azerbaijan."
The agency is a public legal entity operating in the directions of supporting the development of media, training media specialists and organizing their additional education, stimulating the activities of audiovisual, print, and online media entities, information agencies, as well as journalists and other media workers, and also promoting the application of new information and communication technologies and innovations in the media field.
The main areas of activity of the agency include ensuring the development of the relevant field, participating in the formation and implementation of state policy in this field, cooperating with the relevant state bodies (institutions), and participating in the development and implementation of proposals.
The institution announces competitions twice a year to strengthen the financial sustainability of media entities and allocates the relevant amount of financial resources to the winners.
The agency also takes appropriate steps to stimulate the activities of media representatives with the "Individual Journalist Competition."
In recent years, cooperation relations between Azerbaijan's media organizations and leading information agencies of European countries have been expanding; joint projects, journalist exchange programs, and training sessions are carried out, in which MEDIA's role is undeniable.
The institution makes an important contribution to strengthening the position of Azerbaijani media as a reliable and professional information source both locally and internationally.
