Leonid Kharitonov, head of the Investigation Committee department for Kuzbass in Novosibirsk, has been arrested on charges of accepting a bribe amounting to 80 million rubles.
Musavat.com reports that Kharitonov, who was presented as the "face of the fight against corruption," will be held in a detention center until January 24, 2026.
The incident is regarded as the next high-profile case involving high-ranking officials in law enforcement agencies in Russia, who themselves become entangled in bribery scandals while fighting against corruption.
