In the winter months, many often try to warm themselves up by turning to alcoholic beverages, but this is actually dangerous.
Milli.Az reports that this was stated by Russian gastroenterologist Maxim Chulev.
He emphasized that alcohol does not warm the body in the cold, it creates a false sensation of warmth. Chulev explained:
"After alcohol consumption, blood vessels dilate and a person feels warmth. However, this sensation is deceptive. Due to the dilation of blood vessels, heat leaves the skin more quickly and the internal body temperature drops. As a result, despite the subjective feeling of warmth, the body cools rapidly and the risk of hypothermia increases."
The expert added that alcohol affects the nervous system, reducing the ability to properly sense the cold and forcing a person to react late in dangerous situations. "Under the influence of alcohol, reactions slow down, it becomes difficult to properly assess the situation, and symptoms of hypothermia and frostbite may not be noticed in time," Chulev emphasized.
