France: The threat of dissolving the National Assembly may be lifted

The threat of dissolving the lower house of the parliament - the National Assembly in France may be lifted.

According to Medianews.az, Sebastien Lecornu, acting head of government, said on the evening of October 8 that during consultations, the majority of parliamentary factions opposed the dissolution of the National Assembly. It is emphasized that President Emmanuel Macron will appoint a new prime minister on October 10.

In the country, the government is formed based on both the presidential election and the results of the National Assembly election. The current National Assembly was formed in the early election held in the summer of 2024. Since the Renaissance Party and its allies, affiliated with the head of state, remain in the minority in the National Assembly, government crises are occurring. Michel Barnier, appointed prime minister on September 5, 2024, resigned on December 4 after facing a vote of no confidence in the National Assembly. François Bayrou, who took the prime minister post from December 13, faced the same fate on September 8, 2025. Sebastien Lecornu, prime minister since September 9, resigned on October 6 amid sharp criticism from the National Assembly, but at Emmanuel Macron’s request, he is conducting talks with the members of parliament.
