The Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan shared his thoughts on Azerbaijan-Armenia relations and peace prospects in the region during an interview with radio host Yegor Glumov.
Medianews.az reports that according to him, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has faced various insults and threats in recent years.
“For four years now, we have been hearing insults and inappropriate expressions. These threats are directed not only at us but also at our family members and children. As for how we should live with Azerbaijanis, what should we do? Should we take the country and move it somewhere else in Europe? This is our region, and we cannot isolate ourselves from this region,” he emphasized.
The parliament speaker noted the importance of holding open discussions in society about Armenia's borders and future.
According to Simonyan, Armenian society must accept the reality of communication and coexistence with Azerbaijanis.
“We cannot claim that no one exists. If there is an issue with your neighbor that bothers you, be sure that issue also bothers them. The pain of mothers who have lost their children is the same regardless of nationality. We must come out of this ‘Armenian planet.’ There is a worldview as if only Armenians live there. However, the reality is different,” Simonyan said.
He cited historical examples, noting that peoples who have fought wars for many years later managed to establish cooperation and partnership relations.
“We must live together, trade, and talk. There is no other alternative,” added the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament./Ajans.az
