Today, the Round of 16 stage of the World Football Championship will begin. South Africa will face Canada. The match, which will be held at SoFi Stadium, will start at 23:00 Baku time. The meeting will be officiated by Portuguese chief referee Joau Pineyru.
Medianews.az reports that the championship, held from June 11 in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, started with 48 teams. The teams are divided into 12 groups. The top two teams in the groups and the 8 teams with the best results among the third-placed teams qualified for the Round of 16.
When points are equal, the result of the match between the teams themselves is considered primary. The remaining criteria are: goal difference, number of goals, least official warnings (yellow and red cards), and the team's current position in the FIFA ranking.
The group stage ended on June 28. The Round of 16 is scheduled from June 28 to July 4, the Round of 8 from July 4 to 7, the Quarterfinals from July 9 to 12, the semifinals on July 14-15, and the third-place match and final on July 19.
