Cases of using various supplements to increase muscle mass among young people have reached a dangerous level. Preparations taken without consultation, especially in gyms, lead to irreversible complications in the body. This trend causes serious concern because such substances should definitely be used with professional guidance. Young people often determine the dosage arbitrarily based on recommendations from those around them.
Talking to Demokrat.az on the matter, medical expert Shahvelad Mammadov said that uncontrolled intake of proteins and steroids is quite widespread among youth inclined to sports and those engaged in sports:
"This is indeed an observed and concerning trend. The issue is that such dietary supplements as protein powders and steroids should actually be taken under specialist guidance. However, in most cases, young people use these substances by looking at each other, based on recommendations, or by self-dosing. This can lead to serious health complications. Recently, there has been an increase in patients applying with allergic reactions related to protein powder use. Alongside this, functional disorders of the liver have also become widespread. Cases of sharp increases in ALT, AST, bilirubin, and GGT indicators are recorded," he said.
He noted that at the same time various rashes and unusual skin reactions are observed on the body:
"In some cases, kidney function problems also arise. Risky indicators such as increased creatinine levels in tests are recorded, which may cause more serious complications in the future. Protein powders and such supplements should only be taken under medical supervision. At the very least, consultation with an endocrinologist, dietologist, or other specialists in the respective field is essential. Uncontrolled use poses serious health risks."
The doctor stated that various rashes and unusual skin reactions on the body are signals of problems in internal organs. In some cases, serious kidney function disorders develop. An increase in creatinine levels increases the risk of kidney failure in the future. Therefore, such supplements should be avoided without consultation with an endocrinologist or dietologist.
In other words, proteins and steroids taken to achieve faster results while exercising can destroy the liver, stop kidney function, and cause severe wounds on the skin.
