In the European Union countries, 25.2% of energy consumption in 2024 was attributed to renewable energy. Compared to 2023, the share of this energy source increased by 0.7%. It is planned to increase the share of renewable energy consumption to 42.5% by 2030.
To achieve the set goal, an annual growth of 2.9% is required. However, in recent years the increase has not even exceeded 1%, and this growth rate is unsatisfactory.
For example, between 2021 and 2024, the share of renewable energy consumption rose from 21.9% to 25.2%. The annual increase was less than planned - on average 0.8%.
Among the European Union countries, the highest shares of renewable energy consumption were recorded in Sweden (62.8%), Finland (52.1%), and Denmark (46.8%), and the lowest shares in Ireland (16.1%), Luxembourg (14.7%), and Belgium (14.3%).
The issue is that in Sweden, the leading country, the share of renewable energy consumption decreased from 66% to 62.8%.
