The record in the history of Azerbaijani football championships has been matched after approximately 15 years.
Medianews.az reports, referring to the official website of the Professional Football League, that this occurred in the 17th round of the Misli Premier League.
The last round was notable for the fact that 7 foreign head coaches' teams took to the field. In the first championship games of 2026, teams led by Valdas Dambrauskas ("Sabah"), Kurban Berdiev ("Turan Tovuz"), Saşa İliç ("Sumgait"), Andrey Demchenko ("Araz-Nakhchivan"), Yuri Vernidub ("Neftçi"), Jorj Kaşkilya ("Imishli"), and Kakhaber Tskhadadze ("Gabala") appeared on the field. Indeed, two of them—İliç and Tskhadadze—coached their teams from outside the technical zone due to penalties.
Thus, the record in the history of Azerbaijani championships was matched after about 15 years. The last time there were 7 foreign head coaches was during the rounds held on April 30 and May 1, 2011.
At that time, teams were led by Kakhaber Tskhadadze ("Inter"), Almir Hurtiç ("Mughan"), Toni Adams ("Gabala"), Gyoko Hajiyevski ("Simurq"), Naci Şensoy ("Turan"), Mirça Rednik ("Khazar Lankaran"), and Aleksandr Starkov ("Baku").
Overall, such a situation has occurred only during the 2008/2009 and 2011/2012 seasons so far. In the 2008/2009 season, the 1st round became historic as the first games featuring 7 foreign head coaches. In the summer of 2008, Qyoko Hajiyevski ("Baku"), Valentin Khodukin ("Inter"), Anatoli Demyanenko ("Neftçi"), Roman Pokora ("Simurq"), Kakhaber Tskhadadze ("Standard"), Mustafa Yilmaz ("Turan"), and Rasim Kara ("Khazar Lankaran") were in charge.
