The risk of adenoid hypertrophy in children: Important warning from the doctor

Adenoid growth in children can cause serious health and developmental problems.

Medianews.az reports that Turkish ear-nose-throat specialist Professor Ömer Faruk Çalım spoke about this issue.

The doctor noted that this condition, which is more commonly seen especially in the 2–7 age range, manifests itself with mouth breathing, snoring, and frequent ear-nose infections. If untreated, it can result in impaired sleep quality and growth retardation.

Adenoid is part of the immune system, but due to allergies, frequent infections, and other factors, it can grow larger than normal. This can lead to narrowing of the respiratory pathways and even cause sleep apnea.

The specialist stated that diagnosis is made through clinical examination and endoscopic methods, and middle ear functions are checked if necessary.

Treatment is carried out surgically when possible, and the operation is usually performed safely and within a short duration. Children can return to their normal lives in a short time.
