Ford's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jim Farley stated that the company's new goal is to produce affordable electric vehicles in the $30,000 price range.
Milli.Az reports that Ford is working on a new platform called "UEV" (Universal Electric Vehicle) to realize this project. An interesting aspect of the project is that the team developing this platform includes former Tesla employees and Formula 1 engineers.
This platform will enable the production of vehicles with different body types, including sedan, compact crossover, and minibus.
The details of the first car to be produced within the new strategy are clear:
Date: 2027.
Model: an electric pickup truck valued at $30,000.
If this model is successful, mass production of passenger cars rivaling Tesla's popular models will begin by the end of 2027 or from 2028 onward.
Jim Farley emphasized that Ford will henceforth focus entirely on hybrid and affordable electric models. This move is expected to increase the competitive strength of the Mustang Mach-E model against Tesla and compensate for its shortages.
