Ants that start appearing in homes with the warming weather sometimes turn into a real nuisance. Especially appearing suddenly in the kitchen and places where food is stored, there is no need for expensive chemical agents to get rid of these insects.
Demokrat.az reports that it is possible to eliminate the trace of ants once and for all with simple homemade methods.
Baking soda and baby powder
Sprinkling baking soda on the ant trails and nest entrances is very effective. Since this powder clogs the insects' respiratory passages, they try to stay away from that area. The same effect can be achieved with baby powder. A powder barrier applied at doorways and window edges prevents the entry of new colonies from the ground.
The power of soapy water
Ants leave special scent traces to find their way. Wiping those places with water mixed with liquid soap or detergent completely removes these traces. It is enough to prepare a mixture by adding a quarter cup of soap to one liter of water, fill a spray bottle with it, and spray the holes in the walls and entry paths.
Odor barrier with vinegar
White vinegar is both cheap and safe. When vinegar is mixed half-and-half with water and sprayed on window edges and under baseboards, ants lose their direction. If you do not like the smell of vinegar, you can add a few drops of essential oil to the mixture.
Natural medicine from orange peels
Lemon and orange peels contain substances that are poisonous to ants. If you soak the peels in water for several days and spray the resulting liquid on places where ants gather, you will see that they disappear in a short time.
Mixture of borax and sugar
One of the most effective methods is using borax. It should be mixed with powdered sugar or sweet syrup and placed on the ants' path as bait. However, you should be careful because if you have small children or pets at home, this method can be dangerous.
Cleaning with a vacuum cleaner
If you do not want to prepare any mixture, the vacuum cleaner is the quickest helper. It is possible to remove ants and their traces within seconds using narrow attachments. This method is both environmentally friendly and does not require extra energy.
