Since January 20, the number of deaths due to heavy snowfall in Japan's northern regions and along the Sea of Japan coast has risen to 38.

Trend reports that this information is provided in statistics released by the Japan Fire and Disaster Management Agency.

According to the data, among the deceased are those who fell from roofs while clearing snow, as well as individuals who fell ill while cleaning roads and paths. The highest number of deaths was recorded in Niigata Prefecture (14 people). In Akita Prefecture, 7 died, and in Yamagata, 5 lost their lives. Additionally, 8 more deaths have been reported in Hokkaido and Aomori prefectures. Deaths have also been recorded in Nagano, Shimane, Iwate, and Kyoto prefectures.

Furthermore, 413 people have been injured due to the heavy snowfall, with 142 of them reported to be in serious condition.

The intense snowfall observed in several prefectures of Japan in recent weeks has mainly seriously affected the Niigata, Hokkaido, Akita, and Yamagata regions. Military units have been deployed to the areas to assist the population.
