"The harm of electronic cigarettes is not at all less than that of regular cigarettes. Electronic cigarettes were introduced in the 1970s as an alternative idea to cigarettes and businessmen turned it into a business. As a result, mass production began."
This was stated to Musavat.com by the well-known medical science doctor, professor Adil Qeybulla.
He said that electronic cigarettes contain as much nicotine as regular cigarettes:
"Nicotine is the basis of cigarette addiction. Ordinary tobacco contains substances similar to special tar, and they cause cancer. Electronic cigarettes contain aromatic substances that form carcinogens when burned. In other words, electronic cigarettes are in no way inferior to regular cigarettes. But the issue does not end with banning them, as people have already become accustomed to them. It is necessary to discourage people through some form of awareness. If these are produced worldwide, they will enter the country illegally in some way. I do not think such bans will be effective. Anti-smoking education must be strengthened. Currently, the number of smokers among women is rapidly increasing. The vast majority of the population smokes. Because there is a comfort, freedom, no public criticism. Smoking in places where people gather is strictly prohibited; it should not be allowed. In restaurants, whoever wants to smokes. Such a thing does not exist anywhere in the world."
It should be noted that electronic cigarettes are banned in Azerbaijan. This is reflected in the proposed amendment to the "Law on Tobacco and Tobacco Products," discussed today at a joint meeting of the Agrarian Policy, Economic Policy, Industry and Entrepreneurship, and Labor and Social Policy committees of the Milli Majlis.
According to the draft, the import, export, production, storage, wholesale and retail sale, and use of electronic cigarettes and their components are prohibited.
