A large quantity of narcotics was prevented from being smuggled into Azerbaijan from Iran using an aircraft. The total weight of the narcotics was 33 kilograms.
In a statement to Medianews.az regarding the issue, political analyst Elkhan Shahinoglu said that they try almost every week to smuggle narcotics into Azerbaijan from Iran using drones: “In Iran, the death penalty exists for cultivation and transportation of narcotics. The death penalty does not scare those involved in drug trafficking in Iran, or else the scope of those engaged in this activity in the neighboring country would not be so broad. Another question is how those engaged in drug trafficking in Iran have obtained so many drones? Is it so easy to make drones in Iran using artisanal methods, or do drug couriers with a wide scope benefit from government-produced drones? In any case, these questions should be addressed to the Iranian generals and officials responsible for the borders.”
