After parting ways with Fernandu Santuş, the national team achieved a draw against Ukraine under the leadership of Ayxan Abbasov.
According to Milli.Az, after the draw against Ukraine, the AFFA leadership insisted on his participation in the upcoming match against France. Overall, AFFA supports Ayxan Abbasov leading the team until the end of this year’s - that is the DÇ-2026 qualifying stage.
The experienced head coach, however, does not view this proposal positively. He wants to be at the helm of the national team in the next UEFA Nations League as well. A 3-month period is very short for the head coach, and this proposal is a failed step.
It seems AFFA wants to pass this period with a local specialist until they find a foreign coach.
The distrust towards local specialists, while millions are spent on foreign head coaches, has not been well received by the sports community either.
It should be noted that our national team will play its next matches on October 10th against France, and on the 13th against Ukraine, both away games.
