Execution after 34 years: The sentence imposed on the person who killed the woman by burning her was executed.

The verdict related to the murder of Marlis Sather, committed in Florida, USA, in 1990, was executed 34 years later.

According to Medianews.az, Chadwick Scott Villasi, who committed the crime, was executed by lethal injection. The execution was also witnessed by the victim's son.

On September 5, 1990, 56-year-old Marlys Sather encountered a terrible surprise when she returned home for lunch. Her neighbor, then 22-year-old Chadwick Scott Villasi, was robbing her house.

Realizing he would be caught, Villasi attacked the woman, severely beat her, then tied her hands and feet and attempted to strangle her. Afterwards, he poured gasoline on her and set her on fire. The autopsy determined that the woman was still alive when she was set on fire.

After fleeing the crime scene, Villasi was found guilty in 1991 of intentional homicide, robbery, and arson charges, and was sentenced to death. However, due to legal objections, the execution was delayed for many years.

After US and Florida courts rejected the final appeals, the path was clear for the execution. The verdict was carried out by the decision of the state governor.

The execution process was completed in a short time. In his last words, the convict apologized to his family but stated that he considered himself innocent.

The victim’s family stated in their announcement that they waited for justice for years and emphasized that they wanted the deceased to be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother.

This incident has brought the discussions on the death penalty back to the forefront in the state of Florida.
