Despite the existence of a pick-up and drop-off point at the intersection of Zivar bey Ahmadbayov and Salatin Asgerova streets in the capital, drivers are being fined.
Since the notification sign is placed in the bus lane, there is no possibility of short-term parking nearby or conditions for citizens to conveniently get on and off. Drivers are forced to stop and, as a result, receive fines.
Owners of nearby establishments say that neither can they park their own cars, nor can incoming customers find parking easily.
"We cannot park anywhere. There is a bus lane here. The camera records if you stop the car for 3-5 minutes, and a fine is issued," said one of the residents.
According to transport expert Eldaniz Jafarov, regardless of where the pick-up and drop-off notification sign is placed, private vehicles have the right to stop there to drop off or pick up passengers: "However, stopping the car there for 3-5 minutes under the name of 'pick-up and drop-off' is prohibited and is considered misuse. Parking spaces must be organized for all residential and non-residential buildings constructed in Baku. Unfortunately, no one supervises this issue."
