Stay away from these foods at suhoor – You may feel weak all day long

With the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan, the daily nutrition regime changes and sahur (pre-dawn meal) becomes the main source of energy throughout the day. Properly selected foods prolong the feeling of fullness, balance blood sugar, and prevent thirst. However, some foods, conversely, can cause fatigue and thirst throughout the day.

Milli.Az reports that specialists recommend avoiding the following foods at the sahur table:

Salty foods

Salty foods increase fluid loss in the body and intensify thirst. Pickled foods, excessively salty cheese, and other salty products can cause quicker thirst during the day.

Spicy foods

Spicy meals increase stomach acid, leading to reflux and heartburn. This causes discomfort during the fasting period.

Sweet foods

Foods such as jam, honey, cake, cookies, sweets, and chocolate rapidly increase and decrease blood sugar. As a result, both hunger and thirst increase.

Dough-based foods

Products like börek, pogaça, açma, pide, and other dough pastries make digestion difficult and quickly cause hunger again. It is more appropriate to avoid fried and heavy flour products.

Fried foods

Fried foods such as fried potatoes, peppers, and eggplants burden the digestive system and increase thirst. Processed products like salami and sausage are also unsuitable for sahur.

Caffeinated drinks

Coffee and carbonated drinks have a diuretic effect causing water loss in the body. Instead, water, herbal teas, or light tea should be preferred.

A healthy and balanced sahur menu is the main condition for both physical and spiritual comfort throughout the day. With proper nutrition, it is possible to fast more comfortably and energetically.
