Azerbaijan's representative in the UEFA Champions League for the 2025-2026 season, "Qarabağ," is hosting Denmark's "Copenhagen" team today in the first league stage match in Baku.

Medianews.az reports that the football club named after the Danish capital Copenhagen was founded in 1992. It is currently recognized as the strongest team in Scandinavian football.

The team's home games are held at the "Parken" stadium, Denmark's largest sports arena. This stadium, which holds nearly 39,000 spectators, is also the home ground of the Denmark national team.

"Copenhagen" has won the Danish championship 16 times, the national cup 10 times, the super cup 3 times, and the league cup once.

"Copenhagen," having qualified for European cup tournaments 31 times, achieved its brightest success in the 2010-2011 season by reaching the round of 16 in the Champions League.

In the 2019-2020 season, "Copenhagen" reached the quarterfinals of the Europa League, bringing itself back into the spotlight of European football.

In the 1998-1999 season, "Copenhagen" defeated "Qarabağ" in the first qualifying round of the Cup Winners' Cup with scores of 6:0 at home and 4:0 away. In the 2017-2018 season, the teams faced each other in the last qualifying round of the Champions League. While "Qarabağ" won 1:0 at home, they lost 1:2 away but secured qualification for the group stage due to the away goals rule.

"Copenhagen" currently ranks 43rd in the UEFA rankings. "Qarabağ" is 58th.

In the league stage of the 2025-2026 Champions League season, "Qarabağ" is in 10th place among 36 teams with 3 points, while "Copenhagen" is in 24th place with 1 point.

According to the eight-round round regulations, the top 8 teams advance directly to the round of 16, while those placed 9th to 24th compete in the round of 32.
