The Congressional hearing held in Washington has turned into a sharp debate over the US policy on Iran.
According to Medianews.az, the Democrats have accused President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth of deceiving the public.
During his speech at Congress, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth harshly criticized the Democrats and some Republicans, calling them "defeatists, incompetent, and irresponsible." His words increased the tension at the meeting.
Democratic Congressman John Garamendi accused the administration of providing false information about the reasons for the Iran war and described the war strategy as "unsuccessful and unprofessional."
Hegseth responded to the accusations by accusing the critics of personal bias against President Trump and claimed that the US public supported the operation.
One of the main topics discussed in Congress was Iran's nuclear program. The Democrats stated that the war contradicted previous statements. Hegseth said that Iran’s nuclear capabilities were seriously damaged.
Congress members criticized the war’s cost of nearly 25 billion dollars and its increasing socio-economic burden. Democrats also brought up civilian casualties and instability in the region.
The Secretary refused to give a precise answer as to when the war will end and said that this is important for strategic superiority.
The hearings also criticized civilian casualties in Iran and other regions, as well as military operations in the Caribbean basin. Democrats emphasized the lack of transparency in these operations.
